See it in action

The whole thing,
in three minutes.

Every clip is the real extension, recorded unstaged — the editor, web capture, AI, and an agent writing notes live.

Why My Notes

A notepad that respects
your tabs and your data.

AI on your terms

Summarize, rewrite, continue writing — or just ask: “turn this into a checklist” — with inline autocomplete as you type. Private by default on Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano (nothing sent to a server), or bring your own key: Anthropic, OpenAI, or a local Ollama. Opt-in under Settings → Labs.

Save from any page

Right-click a selection — formatting, links and images included — or grab a screenshot of the tab or just an area of it, and it lands in the panel with its source. No host permissions: it only ever sees what you choose to capture.

Organize with #tags

Type #tag anywhere — it becomes a pill, and one click filters your whole list. No folders to manage.

Local-first & private

Notes are written straight to your browser's own storage. Nothing uploaded, nothing tracked — your words never leave your machine unless you turn on sync.

Markdown in & out

Write in rich blocks, export clean Markdown or JSON anytime — and import it back: single .md files or a whole folder (yes, an Obsidian vault), images included. Fenced ```mermaid blocks render as live diagrams, themed to match. Your notes stay portable — never held hostage.

Optional cloud sync

Mirror notes to a private app folder in your Drive or Dropbox. Off by default, yours to control.

Beside every tab

Pin it open in the side panel — your notes follow you across the web without stealing a window or breaking your flow.

Auto-saved, with history

Every keystroke saves itself, with revision history to step back. Pin what matters; the rest groups by date. Dark mode included.

Your agent's private notebook

Claude Code — or any MCP agent — can search, read and add to your notes through a small local companion. No cloud, no deletes, every agent edit restorable from History. Set it up →

A real editor

Rich blocks,
not a textarea.

Headings, checklists, tables, code and images — with Markdown shortcuts and a slash menu. Type / for commands or [] for a task. Every keystroke auto-saves locally and is there the moment you reopen the panel.

Instant search

Find any note
as you type.

Full-text search runs across every note the moment you start typing — titles and body alike — so the thought you're chasing is always a keystroke away.

⌨️  This one's live — try typing in it.

Private by default

Your notes stay yours.

No sign-up, and nothing collected. Notes are written straight to your browser's own storage — fully usable offline. Turn on sync and a copy goes only to a private app folder in your own Drive or Dropbox. Never to us. There is no “us” server at all.

Good questions

Everything else
you'd want to know.

Where exactly are my notes stored?

In IndexedDB, inside your own Chrome profile on your device. They're fully usable offline, and you can export everything as Markdown or JSON at any time.

Is it really free?

Yes — free on the Chrome Web Store, no account, no trial, no locked features. There are no servers to pay for, because your notes never touch one.

What does sync actually do?

When you turn it on, My Notes mirrors your notes to a private app folder in your own Google Drive or Dropbox — storage you already control. It's off by default, and turning it off stops it completely.

Does the AI send my notes anywhere?

Not by default. AI features run on Gemini Nano, the model built into Chrome — entirely on your machine, no account, no network calls with your text. If you choose to connect your own API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, or a local Ollama), those requests go directly from your browser to the provider you picked — never through us — and your key stays on your device.

What permissions does it need?

No host permissions — My Notes can't read the pages you visit. It only receives the text or screenshot you explicitly right-click and choose to save.

Can my AI agent (Claude Code, MCP) use my notes?

Yes — the local @amenopohis1er/mynotes-mcp companion connects local MCP agents to your notes: search, read, create, append. It's off by default, runs entirely on your machine, agents can never delete, and every agent edit is snapshotted so you can restore it from the note's History.

Which browsers does it work in?

My Notes is built for the side panel in desktop Chrome. Chromium-based browsers that support the side panel API may work too, but Chrome is the supported home.

Keep a clear head,
one tab at a time.

Add My Notes to Chrome and start writing in seconds. No account, no setup, no catch.
