Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-06-29

My Notes is a local-first Chrome extension for taking notes. This policy explains what it stores and what it does not collect.

What we store

  • Your notes and any images you add are stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB) on your device.
  • If you enable sync, a copy of your notes and images is stored in a private, app-specific folder in your own Google Drive or Dropbox account. The app can only access that folder — it cannot see the rest of your Drive or Dropbox.

What we collect

Nothing. We have no servers, no analytics, and no tracking. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Your notes are never sent to us or to any third party other than the cloud provider you choose to connect, into your own account.

Permissions

  • Storage / unlimited storage — to save your notes and images locally.
  • Identity — to sign you in to the cloud provider you choose, for sync.
  • No host permissions — the extension cannot read the web pages you visit.

Your control

  • Sync is optional and off by default. You can disconnect at any time in Settings, which revokes the app's access token.
  • You can remove the app's stored data from your provider at any time:
    • Google Drive: Settings → Manage apps → My Notes → delete hidden app data.
    • Dropbox: Settings → Connected apps → remove.
